Why in News?

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has stated that we need to foundationally transform how cloud computing can drive the next level of economic growth.

About Cloud Computing:

  • It refers to the delivery of different services over the Internet.
  • These resources include applications like data storage, servers, databases, networking, and software.
  • The consumer doesn’t have to keep files on a proprietary hard drive or local storage device, cloud-based services make it possible to save them to a remote database.
  • The stored data can be accessed as long as the user has internet connectivity.
  • Advantage: Cost savings, Increased productivity, Speed and Efficiency, performance, and security.

Related Information:

  • Edge computing enables data to be analysed, processed, and transferred at the edge of the local network.
  • The data is analysed locally, closer to where it is stored, hence processing is done in real-time without latency, without the need to send it far away to a centralised data centre.
  • It allows for quicker data processing and content delivery.
  • The basic difference between edge and cloud computing lies in where the data processing takes place.
